Before Penn Badgley and Blake Lively were outed as a couple (see PEOPLE’s exclusive pics here), Matthew Settle, who plays Penn Badgley’s TV dad on Gossip Girl helped to keep gossip about the relationship between the young lovers a secret.

But now that the cat is out of the bag, he says, “I think it’s nice.”

Settle offered fatherly insight about Badgley and Lively on his way into the Entertainment Weekly upfront party at The Bowery Hotel in New York on May 13. (The new couple also attended.)

When asked if he had advice for his TV son, Settle answered, “In real life, Penn rolls with the punches better than anybody … I don’t think he needs any advice.”

About keeping the relationship a secret before it was revealed, Penn’s TV Dad said, “you can prod and pry, but you don’t want to be too intrusive. I made my own assumptions,” he said. “But I didn’t want to talk about it, to get involved.”

Now that the news is out, Settle believes America will react positively. “I think people are going to love them as a couple,” he said. “They’re a very hot couple. They look good together. And I think they’re good for each other, so why not?”

Settle’s date at the event was his wife, Israeli born actress Naama Nativ, also an actress, who said that she plays “one of Adam [Sandler’s] Israeli girlfriends in his new film, You Don’t Mess with The Zohan.”

But Settle and Nativ have a solid bond. Married for two years, Settle said that he met Nativ, “in Los Angeles through friends.”

So are they or aren’t they? Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively and Penn Badgley will not publicly confirm rumors that they are dating but… c’mon. The two of them look amazing together in matching Ralph Lauren ensembles at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, held at MOMA in New York City. The event was to honor Thursday’s opening of the exhibit “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy.” The event was organized by Vogue magazine.

Considered one of the “must attend” dates in Hollywood, the party is held annually and celebrates new exhibits at the museum. This year, Blake was excited to be in attendance, saying, “I’ve always seen pictures and thought, ‘I would love to go to that!’” I thought she held her own fairly well - she looked amazing alongside such A-list stars as Julia Roberts and Naomi Watts, don’t you think?

Also on hand for the event? Supermodel Amber Valetta, power couple David Beckham and Posh, superstar George Clooney and girlfriend Sarah Larson and fashion designer Giorgio Armani, among other luminaries.

Gossip Girl buddy Chace Crawford also attended the event but was strangely solo.

If you’ve been following the show, wedding bells are ringing for Lily van der Woodsen (Serena’s mom, played by Kelly Rutherford) and Bart Bass (Chuck’s father, played by Robert John Burke).

Spotted on set: Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick, Jessica Szohr, Penn Badgley and Leighton Meester. They all started filming this scene last Wednesday at NYC’s Palace Hotel.

NEW YORK — As the newbie on “Gossip Girl,” Michelle Trachtenberg expected some hazing when she started on set, but her new acting partner has given her a little more than she bargained for.

“He keeps wanting to sniff my butt, but we’re so not there yet,” Trachtenberg said.

And no, she doesn’t mean Chace Crawford or Penn Badgley, who play the show’s hearthrobs Nate and Dan. She’s talking about Dylan, a 6-year-old dog her character Georgina uses to lure Dan into having a conversation with her in Central Park.

“He has no idea who she is,” Badgley told MTV News. “If he did, he wouldn’t be interacting with her, because she represents everything he hates.”

“That, and I made his lady love [Serena] live in hell for a bit,” Trachtenberg added.
